Special Weather Statement concerning severe weather Monday

This statement is made available by the National Weather Service in Memphis:

Severe weather outlook areas for Monday (D4 above) and Tuesday (D5)

…SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH ON MONDAY…

A LARGE WEATHER SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE CENTRAL UNITED STATES THIS WEEKEND… BRINGING A CHANCE FOR SEVERE WEATHER TO THE MID-SOUTH ON MONDAY. A STRONG SURFACE LOW PRESSURE WILL FORM ACROSS WESTERN KANSAS AND MOVE EAST… THEN NORTHEAST INTO THE GREAT LAKES REGION. A SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW PRESSURE AND WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THIS COLD FRONT WILL GENERALLY BE THE FOCUS OF THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT.

THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP AS A BROKEN LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS MONDAY MORNING ACROSS WESTERN AND CENTRAL ARKANSAS. THESE STORMS WILL HEAD EAST AND REACH EASTERN ARKANSAS AND THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL BY MID MORNING. THE STORMS WILL THEN BEGIN TO FORM INTO A SOLID LINE DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. A FEW SUPERCELLS AHEAD OF THE LINE CAN NOT BE RULED OUT AT THIS TIME. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BEGIN TO CLEAR OUT OF THE REGION BY LATE MONDAY NIGHT.

THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER THREATS WILL BE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS… HOWEVER ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE. THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAIN WILL EXIST DEPENDING ON HOW FAST THIS SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH THE AREA… SO FLASH FLOODING COULD BE A CONCERN. STAY TUNED TO FUTURE FORECASTS AS THE SYSTEM EVOLVES OVER THE WEEKEND.
