The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Memphis metro area and points south and west (AR and MS) in a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather during the early morning hours on Wednesday. The primary threat with storms that form ahead of an approaching cold front will be straight-line wind, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Abundant moisture will arrive in the region on Tuesday with showers and some thunderstorms likely on Tuesday afternoon and evening. These storms are not expected to be severe. Another round of storms will arrive sometime early Wednesday (likely between 4-10am) that could bring the threat of severe weather. In addition, many locations could see another 2″ or so of rain from this system from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
