November Climate Recap

Cold weather over the last couple of weeks in October bled into November, which was nearly the coldest on record through the first two weeks of the month. Despite some temperature moderation, the latter half of the month was also slightly below normal, resulting in an average that was in the top 10% coldest on record (14th of 145 years). Three cold temperature records were set during a particularly cold spell mid-month. November also ended up averaging 16 degrees colder than October.

The U.S. temperature anomaly (departure from normal) for the month of November shows well below normal temperatures across much of the nation east of the Rocky Mountains, while above average temperatures were present in the western U.S. (WeatherBell)

After October set a new monthly rainfall record, November ended up just over an inch below average. The number of rain days was right at average. Snow fell on the 11th and 12th, both of which were just a trace but each set or tied the daily snowfall record. Only one severe weather report was received during the month. On November, 27, a barn was destroyed and several other structures, including utility poles, attained damage in southern Tunica County due to wind. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for Tate and Marshall Counties on the 30th with no damage noted.
