After totaling less than an inch of rain for all of October, the three-plus inches we have received in the past week has been a bit too much for some of us who are ready for sunshine again! We’ve also likely forgotten what it’s supposed to feel like in early November, as we’ve become acclimated to above average temperatures of late. This week will serve as a gentle reminder that the sun still shines and 70s (or even low 80s) in the afternoons isn’t “normal” for this time of year.
Veteran’s Day into Tuesday: cooler, dry, and less humid
A cold front passing through this (Sunday) evening will finally scrub the clouds, rain chances and humid air from the the region on a northerly breeze as we head into the Monday holiday.
Instead of waking up to temperatures above 60 degrees, we’ll be in the mid 50s Monday morning. And if you are off work, you’ll find the time off to feature very pleasant conditions as highs only reach the upper 60s under sunny skies and with a dry northerly wind. Dewpoints in the upper 40s will be a nice reprieve from the humid 60s we had Sunday. That low humidity will allow temperatures to fall to around 50 degrees by Tuesday morning – the coolest morning so far this month. Another sun-kissed day on Tuesday will see high temperatures only in the mid 60s making for a great start to the week!
As a reminder, though temperatures will be quite a bit cooler than we’ve seen recently, they are actually still above normal for this time of year! Historically, daytime highs average around 65 degrees, while morning lows should be dipping to the mid 40s. Interestingly enough, the average first freeze of the fall is this week as well – November 12 – and last year we dropped to 30 degrees on November 1! I don’t think we’ve had too many times yet this fall that we’ve needed a coat in the mornings, but it isn’t unusual this time of year!
Wednesday: mid-week cold front brings showers
We’ll see clouds increase as we head into mid-week as another cold front and upper level trough move into the region. There won’t be a lot of deep moisture available, but it appears just enough will move in on southerly flow during the day to result in the formation of showers as the front nears. Those will be most likely in the afternoon and evening hours with less than an inch of rain over a multiple-hour window ahead of the front. Thunder chances look low and for now no severe weather is expected.
Late week: More sunshine and autumn weather!
Behind the Wednesday night front, more autumn high pressure builds in, resulting in some of our coolest days of the month to date. Sunshine fills the sky starting Thursday and continuing into the weekend. With dry air again infiltrating the area, morning lows drop into the 40s for all of us by Friday and Saturday mornings with pleasant highs in the mid 60s Thursday and Friday and only slightly warmer this weekend – near 70. Once again, it’s still above average, but if highs in the 60s is above normal, I think we’ll take it! (Better in November than in August!)
