November 2024 Climate Report for Memphis, TN

November was warmer than average by more than 5 degrees, driven mostly by an average low temperature that was more than seven degrees above normal. The average high of 66 degrees was also almost four degrees above normal. A daily record high minimum temperature was set on the 4th at 71 degrees, which broke the record of 67 degrees set in 2015.

The first three weeks of November were much warmer than average as not a single day was cooler than normal through the 20th. The month started with highs in the 70’s to around 80 degrees for the first week, then remained near 70 for most of the second week. Highs dropped to the mid to upper 60’s for a few days, then back into the 70’s on the 17th. A cold front moved through early on the 20th, with highs falling to the 50’s and lows in the 30’s for a few days. High temperatures climbed back to the 60’s on the 24th before a more significant cold front moved in on the 26th, dropping highs to the 50s to mid 40s to finish the month. The temperature at the MWN Bartlett station dropped to freezing on the morning of the 23rd, but it took until the 29th for Memphis International Airport to finally drop to freezing. This is two weeks later than the typical first fall freeze.

Precipitation for November was much higher than a very dry October, but only slightly above normal. Memphis International received a total of 5.46″, which is almost an inch above normal. The wettest day was the 5th, but there were three days which saw more than one inch of rain (5th, 6th & 13th). Six days received anywhere from 0.05″ to 0.65″ at the airport. Bartlett received about three-quarters of an inch more rain than the airport for the month, topping six inches for the month.
