As we inch away from Halloween and closer towards Thanksgiving, and seasonal items leap from both retail outlets and restaurant menus, most of us are likely ready for some “real” fall weather – crisp mornings giving way to just light jackets in the afternoons. Given that what many think of as the traditional first month of fall (October) was in the top ten percent of warmest Octobers on record, and that the average temperature so far in November is more than ten degrees above normal, it’s not wishful thinking to pine for “sweata weatha.”
The good news is that we are inching towards that becoming reality.
The weekend forecast is ideal for fall events and festivals, Friday (or Saturday, Go Tigers!) night football, and sipping that first morning cup of coffee on the patio with a more substantial coat on. But while cool mornings in the 40s to near 50 degrees definitely have an autumn feel, you’ll notice afternoon temperatures slowly creeping back up over 70 degrees by Sunday. That is, once again, nearly ten degrees above average. Ideal for most, but not quite the crisp air that has us craving pumpkin spice and fire pits!
By middle to late next week, that appetite may be satisfied though, as what appears to be the coolest air of the season arrives behind early week rain chances. Who is ready for frost on the ground when you head to work and having a jacket nearby, no matter what time of day you’re outdoors?
