July 2025 Climate Report for Memphis, TN

A hot and dry month is the best way to describe July 2025 as temperatures came in well above average and precipitation was sparse – by number of days it occurred as as well as how much fell in general. The average temperature for the month of 84.6 degrees was nearly two degrees above normal, meaning the month just missed being in the top ten percent of warmest Julys on record.

While daytime highs were in the 90s nearly every day, overnight low temperatures drove much of the anomaly, ranking ninth warmest for average low temperatures. Not a single day dropped below 72 degrees. The persistent heat and many consecutive days of Extreme Heat Warnings towards the end of the month were the big story. The first occurrence of 100 degrees since August 2024 occurred on the 29th.

Rainfall ended well below normal, less than 50 percent of average for the month, as persistent high pressure that brought the warm temperatures also held off the summer thunderstorms that are typically common in July. Rain occurred on only five days at Memphis International Airport and six days in Bartlett, with nearly an inch of Bartlett’s two inches that fell over the entire month occurring on the evening of the 31st. Severe weather was limited with only a few storms during the month producing strong wind gusts on the 13th and 17th and all warnings being of the flood or flash flood variety due to localized heavy rainfall from some storms.
