September 2025 Climate Report for Memphis, TN

While most of August was cooler than average (except a hot spell mid-month),September was a very warm month. Drought exacerbated the heat, resulting in much of the departure driven by daytime highs that averaged three degrees above normal, while overnight lows were about a degree above average. (Dry ground tends to warm more effectively during the day.)

Drought conditions that carried into September from the dry months of July and August were exacerbated much of this month with below average precipitation for many areas once again. While the number of days with measurable rainfall was just above average at the airport, total precipitation was below average with much of it falling between the 22nd and 25th. The northern part of the metro, represented by the Bartlett station, ended well above average, but nearly all of that fell in the same window as the airport (22nd through 25th), which improved drought conditions by a category for parts of the metro.

Severe weather was very limited during the month with only a couple of isolated reports of thunderstorm-induced wind damage. A couple of reports of flash flooding were noted in the northern part of Shelby County on the 23rd.
