February 2026 Climate Report for Memphis, TN

Following a significant winter storm in late January, February started with snow and ice still on the ground and temperatures 20 degrees below normal. High temperatures warmed on the 2nd and 3rd to near 50 degrees, which led to some melting of lingering snow. By the 4th, the airport observed no remaining snow or ice (though areas around the metro which had been plowed saw remnants linger well into the month).

By the second week of the month, high temperatures climbed to the 60’s and low 70’s with lows generally in the 40’s to 50’s for the next couple of weeks. A cold front arrived on the 20th, bringing below average temperatures for a few days before the month finished with highs in the mid 70’s once again. Overall, temperatures were well above normal on average for the month, reflecting a trend for much of the nation outside of the eastern United States.

Normal precipitation for February is 4.55 inches, but the area only reached about half of that as 2.32 inches fell at the airport. The vast majority of that rain fell on the 14th-15th, with over two inches recorded on those two days. A lack of rainfall led to a degradation of drought conditions, particularly across northern Mississippi. The images below show that most of the metro ended February in a moderate drought, while some portions of northwest Mississippi were in a severe drought. There was no snow and no severe weather during the month.
